Gran Canaria Holidays

Like many of the Canary Islands Gran Canaria is of volcanic origin and has a very round shape which reportedly resulted in the island being formerly called El Rondo (The Circle).  There are many great areas on the island to perfectly enjoy the sun and scenery on Gran Canaria holidays.

On Gran Canaria holidays you will marvel at the various different landscapes that the island has such as quaint villages, green valleys, golden sun kissed beaches and large dunes of white sands. Often referred to a miniature continent Gran Canaria will provide tourists with many picturesque views so it is best to keep your camera handy at all times.

There are many cities to head to for on Gran Canaria holidays such as the islands capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria which is the largest of the cities, there’s Telde the second largest city which lies between Palma and the airport. These two places offer great accommodation with top quality services and all are available for reasonable prices.

This tropical region lays just a matter of miles from the coast of Africa, closer than the island is to the shores of Spain. This geographical fact means that the temperatures are much warmer than on other Spanish islands such as the Balearics. Places like Maspolomas, which is the oldest tourist town in Gran Canaria, has temperatures that go as high as 33°C, and if the warm winds of Africa blow over it can sometimes go higher still to around 40°C. However you will find on Gran Canaria holidays that a wind will blow in from the sea to keep things cool, better still head to the north of the island where temperatures aren’t as hot.
